Christ. I can’t believe this is real. But it is.
“I still am at a loss of words at this cancer of advice.”
The Navy’s new sexual assault prevention tips include advice like, “If you pull over to help someone with car problems, remember not to assault them!” and “You can’t have sex with someone unless they are awake!” The list has been both controversial and confusing:
The posting on the Navy’s official Facebook page was met with hundreds of confused and dismayed comments, but Navy officials confirmed last week that the tips were in fact a legitimate part of the service branch’s ongoing bid to stop sexual assaults among its ranks.
“As sad as it is, you’d be surprised how many people need to be told these seemingly basic things,” the Navy said. “It’s everyone’s responsibility to stop sexual assault.”
A Navy spokeswoman tried to explain the genesis of the list:
Spokeswoman Lt. Alana Garas acknowledged that the poster was published with “insufficient context,” and later noted that the tips weren’t conceived by the branch’s own Sexual Assault Prevention and Response department, but rather pulled from a feminist blog called TumblinFeminist.
The point, according to several blogs and news stories about the tips, is an attempt to shift away from a blame-the-victim mentality surrounding sexual assault, in which women are often told how to avoid becoming victims — by not traveling alone at night or drinking too much, for example.
What do you think, tumblr?

Chris Hansen
Last week, The National Enquirer broke the news that To Catch a Predator host Chris Hansen had been “caught” himself — cheating on his wife.
Now, The Daily Mail reports that Hansen also engaged in “sexting” during the affair. And those pics may be coming soon to a computer near you…
“The NBC anchor is said to be terrified that the steamy pictures will be leaked and end up on the internet,” writes The Mail.
The Internet has a funny way of handing out karma: You use the Internet to pretend you are an underage girl to bust perverts, so the Internet shows the world a picture of your dong. It’s a delicate but fair balance.
And though the pics haven’t leaked yet, descriptions are making the rounds:
“‘One of the images shows Chris standing in a hotel room in front of a large mirror. He’s wearing only a white bathrobe that’s completely open – showing off his entire chest and midsection – with one hand concealing his genitals.’”
Oh god. Just show us the pics. They can’t be worse than having to use my imagination to conjure up images of a naked Chris Hansen debating which way of holding his junk is most erotic.
At least the good news is that the woman, aged 30, is an adult. We wouldn’t want to make Alanis Morissette’s head to explode.

Words to Live By
I played football from second grade all the way up until high school. I wasn’t always the biggest kid and I certainly was never the strongest, but I remember a ton of lessons I took away from that sport. Here’s a little gem I was thinking of today
It ain’t how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward.
No matter what life has thrown me, I’ve always been able to just keep moving, even if it’s painful. This has been a great summer, but it’s time for me to get down to work, pay some bills, and get things straightened out for the fall. Just keep moving.

The Facebook
I remember my first experience of Facebook. I was a junior in high school, it was probably the spring of 2006. I was in my AP Chem class with Mr. Spahr and someone brought it up on the clunky desktop PC in the corner. I honestly didn’t think much of it at the time, but just over five years from then I’ve posted thousands of times to my Facebook. It was a good five year run, and it’s time for me to move on. The nature of Facebook is simply TOO personal for me at the stage of life I’m in. Blogging seems like a good alternative. So, if you miss me on there, you googled my name to see if I blocked you and you came up with this, welcome! Who knows what this will turn out to be about, but we’ll just have to figure that out together.

So yeah! I love this song. And I’m in a great mood lately. Thought I would share some of it. :)
